Arte-Via Cooperative, based in Lousã, Portugal and the its founder the Portuguese writer Ana Filomena Amaral, launche the 4th edition of the International Literary Festival of the Interior (FLII) – Words of Fire, in honour of the victims of forest fires, under the slogan of “Art and culture as resuscitators of a region and a people ”.
This festival is sponsored by His Excellency the President of the Republic.
Associated partners are the Regional Centre of Coordination and Development Commission (CCDRC), the Centro Cultural Regional Delegation, the University of Coimbra, the Directorate-General for Books, Archives and Libraries (DGLAB), the Libraries Network School (RBE).
This is an intermunicipal event, hence its innovative character, which will take place in eleven counties in the region affected by the fires, with the aim of taking books and writers to the most unusual and unpredictable places, such as factories, fields, beaches, churches. markets, places where people work and live.
In other words, the books go out to the public because they, too, miss them.
This edition is dedicated to Manuel Alegre and Maria Teresa Horta, it also integrates the celebrations of the centenary of Carlos Oliveira, with the theme “Literature, citizenship and freedom”. And because this is a festival of causes, we intend to address burning issues for the future of the world, right from the start of the environmental emergency.
This festival brings together municipalities and institutions from the counties of Alvaiázere, Ansião, Castanheira de Pera, Miranda do Corvo, Lousã, Pampilhosa da Serra, Arganil, Tábua, Condeixa-a-Nova, Pedrógão Grande, Penela.
Municipal libraries and school library networks are crucial in the organization of Words of Fire.
From June 17 to 20, in eleven municipalities in the districts of Coimbra and Leiria, FLII – Words of Fire., intends to involve all development agents, from all participating counties and all local talents, in all activities to be carried out simultaneously: training actions, competitions, lectures, workshops, readings, book fairs, shows, multimedia, performances, installations, exhibitions, for and with all audiences of all age groups.
The concept underlying this festival is that of synergistic realization, catalysing the resources of the municipalities and other institutions that are part of the consortium, making the most of and leveraging the best that each has, in a joint effort to overcome adversity. And in the name of the regenerating word, where there are people, there will be books.
They will be in the most unexpected places, at the hands of whoever wants to read them, Portuguese and foreign writers will go to the most surprising places, the books and the words will make the color revive again through the blackness.
During the month of June there will again be a literary residency, whose guests will visit the councils of the consortium.
For this year, the festival already has the partnership of several international counterparts: Fraktura (Croatia), FLIPoços (Brazil), Galway Literary Festival (Ireland), Vilenica International Literary Festival (Slovenia), Book Worm (China) and Poetry Festival Chepén Chepén (Peru), among others.
